Why did my Sonilo upload fail or stall?
Short answer
Sonilo stops an upload when almost nothing has moved for 90 seconds, when the connection keeps dropping after several retries, or when the network blocks the upload. Large uploads go up in parts, and if you retry on the same page within a few hours, Sonilo sends only the parts that are missing. Check the file meets the format and size limits too.
What each message means
| Message | What happened | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The upload stalled and was stopped. | Less than 256 KB moved in 90 seconds. | Check your connection and try again. |
| The connection kept dropping, so the upload stopped. | Sonilo retried and the connection kept dropping. | Try again, or switch to a steadier connection. |
| Your network blocked the upload. | The connection to the upload server never opened, and the server could not be reached. | Try another network, or turn off any VPN or security software. |
| Your device stopped letting us read this video. | The browser could no longer read the file, for example because it was moved or is still syncing. | Choose the video again. |
| Video format not supported. | The file is not MP4, MOV or M4V. | Convert it to MP4. |
| This file has no video track. | It is an audio file. | Upload the video, or use text to music. |
How uploads recover
- Files of 50 MB or more upload in parts, three at a time.
- A part that barely moves for 30 seconds is sent again automatically; you see "Connection dropped · retrying".
- If the whole upload fails, trying again on the same page resumes it: parts already stored are kept for 3 hours and only the missing ones are sent. Reloading the page starts over.
- A request that barely moves is sent again up to 5 times before the upload gives up. Time the page spends in the background does not count against the upload.
Limits to check
- MP4, MOV and M4V, up to 3 GB and 30 minutes.
- At least 5 seconds for music, 0.5 seconds for sound effects.
- Video translation: up to 400 MB and 5 minutes.
