Licensing FAQ

Which Sonilo plans include commercial use?

Short answer

Commercial use starts on Pro ($14.99 per month): ads, sponsored content, client work, monetized channels, apps, websites, and indie games, with no attribution. Premium ($29.99 per month) adds film, television, broadcast, and studio games. Enterprise adds custom terms. Output generated on Free, or on an existing Creator subscription, is for personal, non-commercial use only. The rule is tied to the plan that was active when the track or sound effect was generated, not the plan you hold when you publish.

What each commercial tier covers

Commercial rights are a ladder, and each tier includes everything below it. There is no separate "extended" license to buy and no per-track fee: the plan is the license, and no paid plan requires you to credit Sonilo. Only a shared Free-plan download carries a credit requirement; see posting Free-plan output.

  • Pro — commercial license. Ads (paid advertising, sponsored and branded content, social campaigns), client work, monetized YouTube and other creator channels, apps, websites, and indie games.
  • Premium — adds screen, broadcast, and studio games. Everything in Pro, plus film, television, broadcast, and studio games.

Games split on who makes them, not where they ship. An indie game is a commercial game — sold, ad-supported, or otherwise monetized — on any platform, made by an individual or a team whose combined revenue and funding over the last 12 months is under US$200,000; Pro covers it. A studio game is the same kind of game from a team at or above that line, and needs Premium. Neither the platform nor the number of platforms changes which side a game is on.

What "personal, non-commercial" means on Free and Creator

You can experiment, post to a personal, non-monetized account, and share drafts with collaborators. You may not use the output in ads, sponsored posts, monetized channels, client deliverables, or anything you sell. Free plan exports are preview quality; Existing Creator subscriptions export at full quality but keep the same personal-use scope.

Timing matters

Rights attach to the plan active at generation. A track made on Free does not become commercially licensed when you later upgrade to Pro; regenerate it on the paid plan, or download the license certificate for a track generated on Pro or above. See what happens if you cancel.

API users

Audio generated through the Sonilo API can be used commercially — in your own product and by your end users, including ads, client work and monetized channels. The API is billed pay-as-you-go from a prepaid balance on platform.sonilo.com, not through a sonilo.com subscription plan, so no Pro or Premium plan is needed; Enterprise API customers follow their enterprise agreement. For film, TV or broadcast use, or for releasing tracks to Spotify, Apple Music or other streaming services, contact sales first. See whether your app's users can use API audio commercially.

Make something you can publish

Commercial rights start on Pro at $14.99 per month. Every generation on Pro and above comes with a certificate your client or platform can verify.
