Licensing FAQ
What happens to my rights if I cancel or downgrade my Sonilo plan?
Short answer
Rights are decided by the plan that was active when the output was generated, so audio you generated and exported on Pro or Premium keeps its commercial scope after you cancel. What you lose is access: projects are kept in your library only while you are subscribed, so export the audio and download each license certificate before the plan ends.
Rights while subscribed
While you are on a plan, the plan decides what you may do with each new generation. Output generated on Pro, Premium, or Enterprise carries that plan's commercial scope: Pro covers general commercial use such as ads, client deliverables, and monetized channels, and Premium adds film, television, broadcast, and studio games. Output generated on Free or Creator is for personal, non-commercial use. Nothing is owed to Sonilo afterwards: no royalties and no per-use fees.
A few things hold on every plan. Section 6.1 of the Terms assigns you any rights Sonilo has in the output generated for your account. Generation is non-exclusive, so other users may receive similar or identical results, and output may not qualify for copyright protection in every jurisdiction. That makes your plan and the Terms the record of what you may do, so keep that record as you go:
- Download the license certificate for each commercial track or sound effect when you publish it. It records the plan and scope at generation, and anyone can check it at sonilo.com/verify-license.
- Keep the generation in your library and note which project or client delivery it went into.
- Keep your prompts and edits if you arrange, layer, or rework the output. Whether a track can be registered for copyright depends on your country's law and on how much human authorship you added.
Rights after you cancel or downgrade
Nothing in the Terms withdraws the rights to output that was properly generated under a commercial plan. A video you published with Pro-generated music stays licensed, and a routine cancellation does not revoke its certificate. What you lose are plan features: generating new commercial output, re-exporting old projects at full quality, issuing new certificates for them, and your project library, which is kept only while you are subscribed.
Before the plan ends:
- Export every track and sound effect you intend to use. Full-quality exports need a paid plan, so do this while it is active.
- Download the license certificate for each commercial track. The certificate is your evidence of the plan and scope at generation.
- Note that unused credits do not roll over and are not refunded; downgrades take effect at the end of the billing period, so you keep access until then.
Downgrading to a personal-use plan. Anything you generate after the downgrade is personal-use only. Anything generated before it keeps the scope of the plan it was made on. Upgrading again later does not retroactively license a track generated on a personal-use plan.
When a certificate can be revoked. The verification page can show a certificate as revoked. Revocation is tied to breaches of the Terms, for example output generated from inputs you did not have rights to, not to ending a subscription.
How cancellation differs across services
Official pages checked September 27, 2026. Each service below keeps commercial rights in eligible past output after a paid plan ends, but continued rights are not the same as continued storage, downloads, or new generation, so keep the files and the evidence of their eligibility.
- Sonilo: audio generated on Pro, Premium, or Enterprise keeps the scope of that plan; export it and download its certificate before the plan ends, as described above.
- Suno: its Terms of Service (last revised August 10, 2026) say the commercial use rights for a download you have obtained are perpetual and are not affected by the expiry, cancellation, downgrade, or suspension of your subscription. The same Terms say nothing in that paragraph permits commercial use of a Remix, and output that was not downloaded through an approved channel may not be used commercially.
- ElevenLabs: its help center article What happens to my content after my subscription ends? says you keep a commercial license to whatever you generated during the subscription, and that audio generated outside a subscription always requires attribution. It also says generated content remains accessible for an unspecified amount of time, with no guarantee of availability on the free tier.
For client work, save the version of the relevant terms alongside the generation or download date.
