Specs and limits

What the video to sound effects tool takes and gives back

Input
  • Sonilo's video to sound effects tool takes MP4, MOV and M4V files from half a second to 30 minutes long and up to 3 GB, on every plan.
  • A prompt for Sonilo's video to sound effects tool is optional and can run up to 2,000 characters.
Output
  • Each video to sound effects generation gives one sound effects track, the length of the video or of the section you choose.
  • Sonilo keeps your video's original sound on its own track beside the new sound effects. Keep it, mute it or mix the two with the volume and Mute controls on the Original and Sound effects tracks, and the exported video follows the levels you set.
  • With Preserve speech on, Sonilo keeps the dialogue and narration and replaces the rest of the original sound with sound effects.
  • Sonilo's video to sound effects tool gives you the sound effects as their own audio file, from Download sound effects, as well as the video with every track mixed in, from Export video (MP4).
  • On a paid plan, Sonilo's video to sound effects tool downloads the sound effects file as an M4A, a 48 kHz WAV for game engines and DAWs, or a 320 kbps MP3. On Free, the sound effects play in the browser and the audio file does not download.
  • Video to sound effects downloads cover the first 8 minutes of a video on Pro and the full 30 minutes on Premium.
Cost
  • Sonilo's video to sound effects tool costs 18 credits per second of video, with a 15 second minimum (270 credits).
  • Sonilo charges 36 credits per second when it makes sound effects and music together for the same video.
  • The Free plan comes with 2,000 credits every 2 weeks, enough for up to 111 seconds of video to sound effects.
Commercial use
  • Sound effects from Sonilo's video to sound effects tool can be used commercially on Pro and Premium. Pro covers ads, branded content, client deliverables, monetized channels and indie games, and Premium adds film, TV, broadcast and studio games.
  • Sound effects made with Sonilo on the Free plan are for personal projects only.
Not built for
  • Sonilo's video to sound effects tool makes sound effects, not music. For a soundtrack, use video to music.
  • Sonilo's video to sound effects tool gives one version per generation. To hear a different take, generate again.
  • Videos over 30 minutes or 3 GB need to be trimmed or split before Sonilo can take them.

Commercial licensing

Licensed at the source. Cleared for commercial use.

Sonilo generates new sound effects against your video instead of pulling recordings from a stock library. The model behind it is trained exclusively on licensed catalogs, on every plan, and a paid plan carries the rights to publish what it makes.

  • Licensed training data

The same model runs on every plan, trained only on licensed audio catalogs. No scraped recordings and no gray areas.

  • Commercial rights from Pro

Ads, branded content, client deliverables, monetized channels and indie games. Premium adds film, TV, broadcast and studio games. Paid plans need no attribution.

  • A license certificate you can hand over

Every file generated on Pro or Premium can carry a license certificate with a verification code, so a client or platform can check the rights themselves.

Free and Creator are for personal projects only.

FAQ

AI sound effects generator for video

How does video to SFX work?+

Upload a video and add an optional prompt. Sonilo uses the clip as timing context and generates AI sound effects for what happens on screen, such as Foley, ambience, impacts, and transitions, so you can review each one against the picture.

Is this a sound effects generator or a sound effects library?+

A generator: the effects are new audio made for your clip. If you want ready-made files instead, the Sonilo sound effects library downloads free with an account: 10 sound effects a month as MP3 for your own social channels, monetized ones included, credited to Sonilo. Paid plans download without limit in MP3 and WAV, for client projects and paid ads too, with no credit needed.

Is this for sound effects or background music?+

This page is for video sound effects. Use video-to-music when the output should be a soundtrack bed.

What kinds of SFX can I request?+

Use prompts for ambience, movement, UI cues, Foley, whooshes, impacts, product sounds, and scene transitions.

What happens to my video's original audio?+

Sonilo keeps your video's original audio on its own track beside the new sound effects, and you choose what happens to it: keep it, mute it, or mix the two with the volume and Mute controls on the Original and Sound effects tracks. To keep only the dialogue and narration, turn on Preserve speech before you generate, and Sonilo replaces the rest of the original sound with sound effects. The exported video follows the levels you set.

Can I download the sound effects on their own?+

Yes. Sonilo lets you download the generated sound effects as a separate audio file, as well as the video with the sound effects mixed in as an MP4. On a paid plan the audio file downloads as an M4A, a 48 kHz WAV or a 320 kbps MP3. On Free, the sound effects play in the browser but the audio file does not download.

How long can my video be?+

Sonilo's video to sound effects tool takes videos up to 30 minutes long and 3 GB on every plan, and makes sound effects for the whole video. Your plan sets how much of the result you can download: the first 8 minutes on Pro and the full 30 minutes on Premium.

Can I use the SFX in commercial videos?+

Yes, on Pro and Premium. Pro covers ads, branded content, client deliverables, monetized channels and indie games; Premium adds film, TV, broadcast and studio games. The model is trained only on licensed catalogs, and each file can carry a license certificate with a verification code. Free and Creator are for personal projects only.
